Education

Dear Philadelphia,

Please don't trash the public education system. You want a better city tomorrow? Make a better public school system today!

Economy

Dear Philadelphia,

Please secede from PA and join Delaware or New Jersey. You're a great city but the legislators in rural PA are bringing you down with their archaic ideas about infrastructure and education. You deserve so much better.

Health

Dear Philadelphia,

Your citizens think it's ok to spit everywhere, all the time, indiscriminately: on sidewalks, at bus stops, on train platforms (and I do mean ON the platform - they cannot even be bothered to walk to the edge to spit over the side?) Does it need to be stated? Spitting where people walk is more than a little gross, rude, and a public health hazard. 'No spitting' signs went a long way towards curbing TB outbreaks a century ago. Maybe you can pop up a few signs now that flu season is here?

Urban Planning & Public Space

Dear Philadelphia,

Can we have some foresight and add infrastructure like parking garages, bike lanes, traffic signals, signs, and other street improvements BEFORE continuing to add businesses and new construction to an already over-crowded neighborhood (I'm thinking Frankford Ave. in Fishtown)? It's a matter of quality of life and public safety. Let's plan before we expand!!

Public Safety

Dear Philadelphia,

Why is it that all the homeless people in this city have to come up to me and get in my face EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. ? It makes me feel really uncomfortable. City government, you need to get your act together and get the homeless off the streets. There are way too many drug and violence problems in this city as it is without encouraging more via homelessness. Take a leaf from Giuliani's book and clean the city up.

Public Safety

Dear Philadelphia,

There is no reason I should not feel comfortable walking around my own city. The public safety problems here are really out of control, and no one is doing anything to fix them. There are exactly two neighborhoods nice enough to stroll around in without being uncomfortable: Rittenhouse and Old City (i.e. near Independence Hall). Walk 2-3 blocks in any direction? Whoops... too far. It's really quite rediculous. Also, Philly cops, please get out there and patrol on foot. Make me feel safe please.

Public Safety

Dear Philadelphia,

last night outside CVS on campus a woman approached me and asked for septa tokens. She said she needed me to buy her not one, but SIX because she was taking three transfers. I couldn't know to believe her or not, so I just gave her the three I had. I confronted her later and she claimed she was really homeless. Either she was really needing some help from the state or she was a professional con-man. Philly, get your act right. This is not a City of Beggars.

Urban Planning & Public Space

Dear Philadelphia,

Your city is great, but aesthetically, you need some help. Add some more green spaces or even just trees.

Transportation

Dear Philadelphia,

Take a deep breath, help a rider out. It's not as common as you might think for one to "STEP DOWN" to open doors.
