Economy

Dear Washington,

How many small plate (tapas-style) restaurants can one city have??? Are you going for a Guinness record?

Housing

Dear Washington,

How in the world do you plan to solve the affordable housing problem? You have jobs to offer, but there are fewer places for the average working person to live.

Transportation

Dear Washington,

How do we have such an inadequate public transportation system? Waiting more than ten minutes ever for a train or bus is unacceptable, yet this weekend you were running buses 40 minutes apart on 14th Street - the densest street in the city. Mobility and the lack thereof is going to KILL this area. The idea that a commuter rail would run in one direction in the morning and the other way in the evening is something I'd never even heard of until I moved to the area. It's insane. Stop doing that.

Economy

Dear Washington,

Its a lot of fun living here, but I can't afford to stay. Also, not EVERY restaurant that opens has to be a new IT destination. Some of us are just fine with solid, low-key neighborhood gathering spots.

Tourism & Hospitality

Dear Washington,

You need stop giving 5-star Yelp reviews on restaurants that are merely adequate. What you pay $50 a person for at Rasika, you can get for under $10 in East Village. Please stop encouraging lazy, expense-account bait eateries and go to places that actually do something interesting.

Transportation

Dear Washington,

it's dangerous for bikes and pedestrians to be squeezed onto the same tiny pathways. Squeeze out the cars, not the bikes and people.

People & Diversity

Dear Washington,

If DC's established, ethnic and diverse neighborhoods are what makes it so cool, inviting and appealing, why are you allowing them to become gentrified? You need to look out for all the folks who stuck it out in DC during the not-so-good times or who took a chance in lesser desired neighborhoods, before it was the "THE" place to be that is now, because, they are who made it that way. They weren't just holding someone's seat until they came back - THEY are DC!
